We honor all who have died for our freedom

Throughout history, millions of men and woman have risked their lives for our country's freedom. Each member of the armed forces decided to answer a great call by giving something of themselves - some have given all by laying down their lives. These soldiers have demonstrated great personal courage, sacrifice, and devotion to the call of duty. These patriots hold a cherished place in our history.

We commend families and friends who struggle with the grief and loss of their loved ones.

Memorial Day, formerly known as Decoration Day, is a national holiday. This holiday commemorates U.S. men and women who died in military service for their country. It began first to honor Union soldiers who died during the American Civil War. After World War I, it expanded to include those who died in any war or military action.
On this Memorial Day, and in the days ahead, please find a way to remember the fine men and women for defending our freedom and giving their all for the American way of life. Hang a flag, thank a veteran, or express gratitude to family members of our troops who are serving or have served - show your support. Memorial Day is a day for all Americans to re-dedicate themselves to the cause of peace.
